Q&A - Fellowship program

1.    About the NGO Fellowship Program

What is the NGO Fellowship Program?

The NGO Fellowship Program is organized by Taiwan Alliance in International Development (Taiwan AID) and sponsored by the MingYi Foundation. This fellowship aims to provide opportunities for NGO professionals from South Asia, Southeast Asia and Northeastern Asia to gain first-hand experience in the Taiwanese NGO sector. The one-month fellowship contains a placement in Taiwanese NGOs, workshops, and roundtable events with their Taiwanese counterparts.

What expenditure will be covered for fellows in the program?

Fellows’ expenses of flight, lodging (shared room), food, and transportation will be covered during their stay in Taiwan. Fellows will receive per diem during the three-week placement.

When is the Fellowship Program?

NGO Fellowship Program will be held in Taiwan from the 29th September to the 27th October 2024. Participants will be required to stay in Taiwan during this whole schedule.

2.    Application

How to Apply?

You can apply for NGO Fellowship Program here : https://forms.gle/iLpLRn94UykwFyuM6

Deadline is June 1st, 23:59 (TST, GMT+8). You need to upload a CV, a personal headshot, a personal statement (one page including the purpose of attending the program, expectations, and a personal career plan), and 2 recommendation letters. Please note that your application will be considered complete only after you successfully submit all required documents before the deadline.

Am I still eligible to apply even if I don't meet all the requirements perfectly?

Eligibility criteria such as age, years of experience and profession fields are not the sole determinant for participation in this program. We encourage all interested individuals to apply and share their NGO stories and experiences with us, regardless of whether they meet the specific eligibility requirements.

Who should I ask for two recommendation letters?

We will suggest that at least one of the recommendation letters is issued by your organization, such as from your supervisor or colleagues. And the other one could be from anyone who knows you well personally, such as from your colleague, mentor, etc. The letters could be focused on your personality, creativity, leadership, and other relevant qualities. We do not have a preferred format for recommendation letters.

Is the recommendation letter a confidential document?

We do not mandate that applicants treat the recommendation letter as a confidential document. You can upload them to the application form by yourself before June 1st.

When will I hear back about the application review and interview selections?

The shortlisted candidates will be invited to participate in the online interview by mid-July.  Please wait patiently for the official announcement in email.

We will not individually inform applicants who are not proceeding to the next stage.

Also, we cannot reply to inquiry of application status privately.

When will I receive the final outcome of my application post-interview?

After the interview, please wait for the official announcement in email patiently. We can’t respond to personal inquiries about application status.

3.    Time to Enjoy the Program!

Who will be my host organization?

We'll match you with a suitable host NGO based on your background before you set off to Taiwan.

Can my family fly to Taiwan together?

Unfortunately, all fellows should promise full participation during the Fellowship. Therefore, we will strongly suggest that you don’t bring any companions to Taiwan, and we will not assist with your companions’ visa applications, accommodations, or other arrangements either.

My Passport has expired. What should I do?

We strongly encourage you to prepare a valid passport when you apply for the NGO Fellowship Program. We need a copy of your valid passport once the final result is announced for visa application. Failing to submit it could result in revocation of eligibility.

Do I need to apply for a visa?

Taiwan AID will apply for the fellows’ visas to join this program, so fellows would not need to apply for the visa by themselves unless we tell you to do so.
